About the Advantage DID Special Cam Chain
The most important thing to replace the high cams are those peripheral parts.
The cam chain (also called timing chain) is especially important.
There are two types of cam chains: the normal gourd-type cam chain and the silent chain.
On two wheels, it is best to be careful about the initial stretching of a standard cam chain or silent chain.
In addition, the way to find the abnormality (noise) of the cam chain is when the accelerator is opened, that is, when the speed is increased, the cam chain is pulled in the direction of rotation, and the noise tends to disappear.
If you can hear it when you put the accelerator back on while driving, you should replace it, and the sound should be like a rattle.
If the noise is a little high-pitched, it is probably a mechanical noise from the valves.
If you replace the high camshaft and camshaft, it is better to replace the cam chain at the same time.
There are several types of cam chain tensioners such as manual tensioners, automatic tensioners and hydraulic tensioners. However, the trouble is that this tensioner does not work properly and the notch does not advance, so the cam chain is not tensioned.
On the basis that this never stretches endlessly, the damaged state of the cam chain is in a state that is called stretching and cooking. This is the worst situation because the seized and deformed pins would affect the extention and rotation.
Cam chain extension will delay the cam timing and cause problems.
To put it more simply, the cam chain has more play, the cam rotation is delayed, the valve opening / closing timing itself collapses, and as a result, the engine response becomes worse and engine startability is often worse.
In the past, I was surprised to find that the cam chain of my new engine was extended by more than 3mm when I dismantled it for tuning after running it for 5 hours for break-in.
It's safe to buy high camshaft, cam chain, Vanya type cam sprocket, cam chain slider, and tensioner at the same time.
At ADVANTAGE, they always use DID products, and the same is true for reinforced cam chains.
The cam chain consists of three components: plate, roller and pin.
At ADVANTAGE, they've reviewed all of them to enhance them.
1. The shape of the plate, which is called a gourd shape, is used in most cam chain type plates. In order to increase the durability of the product, Advantage has changed the shape of the product to what is called a "koban" shape.
2. Accuracy is important because the sprocket rotates by engaging the roller here.
Usually rollers are rolled bush type
(A plate is rolled up into a roll and used as a bush roller.) To strengthen the rotational resistance, the rollers are manufactured by cold forging and solid bushings are used.
The solid bushing is a roller around the pin that usually connects the cam chain. The solid bushing roller is molded in one piece and has a smooth surface with no seams and a high rigidity with excellent roundness. The result is a cam chain with excellent wear resistance and friction.
3. The pins that hold the chain together have been treated with Dahard Alpha.
The Die Hard Alpha treatment forms a very hard film on the surface of the pin, and this film is in the form of carbides with even higher hardness dispersed inside.
As a result, a revolutionary improvement in performance has been achieved, with a wear life that is 1.8 times longer than that of stock products.
4. In other cases, the outer circumference of the rotating cam chain is pressed by each cam chain slider, so it is subject to rotational resistance.
In order to reduce the rotational resistance of the blank, a fine blank is cut (the back of the blank is polished) to reduce the rotational resistance.
5, Also, it is the first cam chain to have a gold plating.
The other type is the original Silent Chain, which is supplied with two types of surface treatment: SV treatment and die-hard treatment.
Surface treatment technology SV has produced a high-performance, high-strength silent chain that exhibits high wear resistance in all operating environments.
The silent chain is said to be quiet as far as I know, but it has a very different structure from the normal cam chain.
A silent chain is a chain with a finer pitch and sprockets with teeth that mesh with the pins and sprockets in different places, so that the chain and sprockets gradually come into contact with each other like gears, making it quieter than roller chains that collide. Ordinary cam chains are driven by sprockets, so they can be used even if they are stretched a little, but silent chains are used against gears, so if they are stretched, they can no longer be used (although there is an acceptable range).
For the manufacturer, the silent chain contributes to the freedom of design by reducing the noise level of the engine, making it more compact and reducing the wear of the teeth.
To summarize, the roller chain has more pins than the silent chain, so the initial elongation is higher, but the roller (bearing) makes the elongation more stable and less during operation, while the silent chain is effective in the initial elongation. However, since there is no roller, the pin is directly pressed into the plate and the load on the pin is greater, so the final elongation is greater with the silent chain.
If the camshaft is replaced, it is recommended to replace the cam chain at the same time.
